Hall sticks or magnetic sticks are relatively new. These sticks do not work by friction like the original analog sticks. Hall effect sticks work with a small chip and a magnet. This chip can recognize magnets and determine their attraction, it is attached to the side of the sticks (inside/invisible). Next to the chip is a small magnet which is connected to the stick. When the analog stick is moved, the axis on which the magnet is attached rotates, causing it to move towards or away from the chip. The chip calculates the position of the analog stick and passes it on to the controller.
